Look, I get it. Alot of influencers and celebrities tout the amazing benefits of elbow moisturizer or eyelid cream, as opposed to just eye cream.
I am the product of this environment and have ultimately tried every single skincare/moisturizer/miracle beauty product. As my beauty and skincare collection expanded, so does the time it takes for me to get ready. As this ‘homage to beauty’ expanded so did my husband’s concern for the decrease in bathroom cabinet space. “More products, more problems” was his mantra and thus I realized that I should have included priority bathroom storage space as a contingency in our wedding vows. In all sincerity, I like a simple routine. I have 2 kids and I haven’t used the bathroom alone in 10 years, I need my routine to be as quick and effective as possible. I found a solution in products that can be dual purpose, so I’m saving space, time and money.
Now, instead of a foot moisturizer, body moisturizer, arm moisturizer, hand cream, eye cream and facial moisturizer, I did some research and found excellent moisturizers that not only can be used on both my body and face, but are dermatologist recommended and won’t cause my acne prone facial skin to break out. Without further ado, I give you my top 5 drugstore moisturizers for your entire dermis.
Vanicream Fragrance Free Moisturizing Lotion with Pump, For Sensitive Skin, 16 Fluid Ounces
I really didn’t want to like this one. The packaging is so basic, that really gets me sometimes and when I need to be reminded how susceptible I am to crap body creams in pretty packaging, I think about this body lotion. It’s super lightweight, an excellent moisturizer and can be used all over your body and face. My kids even use it, it’s specifically for sensitive skin. They also make a richer cream version if you need more intense moisture and it’s just as awesome. I use the thicker version for the sensitive eye area.
If you ever listened to the Mom Brain podcast, you may have heard Hilaria Baldwin’s dermatologist episode before the series was cancelled. Her dermatologist gave great info on in office procedures that are great for certain facial conditions, but the best part of the episode was undoubtedly his suggestion that CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion for Dry Skin is far better than anything you will get from an expensive retailer or Sephora. I’ve had this in my arsenal ever since and I use it everywhere and on every family member.
Very similar to CeraVe, this one is another great option for use on your entire body, face included. It’s non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic and fragrance free. Fragrances can be somewhat irritating to the gentler areas of the face, under eye or décolletage, this formulation avoids those pesky irritations.
This one is a fan favorite and its claim to fame is in the colloidal oatmeal that aids in the quick absorption. Although Aveeno is considered a ‘natural’ brand because they use botanicals, this is a great option, but it’s not an ‘organic’ option. It is non-comedogenic and can be used on any family member over the age of 2 weeks on both face and body.
This one could be my favorite. It’s pediatrician and dermatologist recommended. It contains glycerin, which is proven to hydrate and repair dry and damaged skin, but this one has the holy grail of skincare ingredients, and your entire body can benefit from it, Niacinamide. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3, an essential water-soluble vitamin that promotes healthy skin. And since your body can’t produce it on its own, it has to come from your diet or your skincare regimen. This amazing moisturizer is undoubtedly an awesome combination moisturizer that the entire family can use.
Give one of these a try and free up some of the bathroom real estate. If anything, minimizing the products and steps in my routine which saves time and with my entire family using the same moisturizer, I find that I’m not spending as much on moisturizer. More money for serums and haircare is definitely a win in my book. Chess, not checkers, people.
